UNIQUE EXHIBITION WILL HAVE DONEGAL COVERED

first_imgA unique exhibition featuring the work of quilt-maker and artist Irene MacWilliam is to take place at the Donegal County Museum.Irene, a well-known Northern Ireland artist, will display her Year Quilts spanning the last 26 years in which she has used her quilting skills to portray her concerns about natural and human disasters. The exhibition will also feature a small collection of Latin American arpilleras from Chile which expose and denounce events that have dramatically shaped the lives of women. Arpilleras (arr-pee-ai-ahs – stitched appliqué wall hangings that tell a story) became prominent during the 1973-1990 dictatorship as they worked with textiles to tell stories of conflict, struggle and survival.The exhibition has been brought together by guest curator, Roberta Bacic, a Chilean native living in Northern Ireland.The exhibition will be officially opened by the Chilean Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Leonel Fernando Searle, on his first official visit to Donegal at 1pm on 12th April.  All are welcome but an RSVP is required by 5th April.
