Mayweather to pay for George Floyd’s funeral

first_imgFloyd Mayweather has promised to George Floyd’s family that he will cover the funeral costs.It is a remarkable sign of respect from the retired boxer, who follows a number of celebrities to post their support. Floyd tragically lost his life after being pinned down on his neck by a white police officer on May 25.It has seen civil unrest and protests spark all over the country, with several states having to call in the national guard.People from all walks of life have gathered to campaign against racial injustice and police brutality.According to TMZ, Floyd will have four funerals set across the United States.The locations will be held in Houston, Minnesota, Charlotte and an unnamed destination. And former boxer Mayweather has vowed to pick up the bill, TMZ further reports.Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe revealed that “Money” has been in contact with Floyd’s family to send his condolences.“He’ll probably get mad at me for saying that, but yes, (Mayweather) is definitely paying for the funeral,” Ellerbe said.“Floyd has done these kind of things over the last 20 years.”Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been arrested and charged with third-degree murder after the death of Floyd. An independent autopsy on Monday determined that the American died from asphyxia due to the compression on his neck from Chauvin.As well as protests in the United States, sportsmen across the globe have shown their support.Manchester United star Paul Pogba is included, who posted a heartfelt message to Instagram.He wrote: “During the past few days I have thought a lot about how to express my feelings about what happened in Minneapolis.
