International news: Uniglobe staff to work on exchange programme

Experienced staff who have worked for Uniglobe for two years can apply for a job swap of one to three months in one of the company’s 1,140 offices. Most of the offices are in North America, but the company also has branches in 20 other countries, including Kuwait, South Africa, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Peru and Venezuela.Report highlights health and safety risks at work A report on health and safety at work in the European Union has highlighted the risks faced by workers in all sectors of the economy, including the expanding European service economy. The report, by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, was carried out at the request of the European Commission. The results confirm findings of earlier studies that jobs in mining, construction, manufacturing and transport still top the list of “occupations most at risk”.Women win more opportunities in public healthFemale healthcare professionals and policy-makers promoting gender equality in public health have never had a better opportunity to make a significant contribution to the future of the EU Public Health Strategy, which is to be adopted at the end of the year, a conference heard. At the European Institute of Women’s Health conference on gender equity, held in Dublin last month, delegates agreed that a programme of gender-specific education for health professionals and educators was needed to ensure equality of and access to healthcare services across Europe.http://europa.eu.int UK labour cost rises among highest in EuropeTotal hourly labour costs in the EU rose by 3.8 per cent in the second quarter compared with 4.1 per cent in the previous quarter. Among EU countries the smallest annual rises were in the Netherlands and the biggest were in the UK and Luxembourg.
